NOTICES

6:30 pm Choral Evensong with Bishop Steven (Sung by all three St Giles’ Choirs)

Bishop Steven is walking between 46 churches over six days during September to pray for the renewal of catechesis in our archdeaconry, for the launch of the new St Frideswide Community, and for God’s blessing for each of the church communities he visits. He will be visiting St Giles’ on Sunday 2nd September at 6:30 pm. Bishop Steven welcomes us to join him for all or part of the journey each day. Whether you walk with him for a few minutes or the whole day, or simply want to pray with the bishop at one of the churches en route, all are welcome. You will need a packed lunch, appropriate walking attire and a heart for prayer. OHCT Ride & Stride and Oxford Open Doors 8th and 9th September. Volunteers still needed between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm on Saturday 8th September to assist the Ride & Stride effort; and from 12 noon and 4:00 pm on Sunday 9th September to welcome people into the church. This year we will be showcasing Project 900, and there will be a display on the theme of Extraordinary People.

Flowers: On Saturday 1st September we will be decorating the church to celebrate St Giles day and to welcome the many visitors to the church whilst the fair is in operation. Confirmation Classes: If you wish to be confirmed this year, would you please let Andrew or Tom know.

St Giles’/St Margaret’s Cricket Match at St Edward’s School on Sun 8th July: We aim to get there for 12:30, to start at 1 pm. Spectators are welcome and there will be a break for food between innings so please bring food to share (water will be provided). We will have worked up quite an appetite as lunch will be fairly late, so quantities should be judged accordingly! We need food which can be eaten without knives and forks and doesn’t need preparation on site. Sandwiches, rolls, sausage rolls, cheese and savoury biscuits, carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, celery sticks, individual or easily sliceable cakes, small apples, and grapes are the sort of things that will work well.

Revd Georgie Simpson – 20th Anniversary of Ordination: There will be a special Sung Eucharist at 6:00 pm on Sunday 8th July at St Margaret’s, Preacher: Rt Revd Dr Rowan Williams.All are welcome to attend.

The Funeral Service for Eric Stanley will be at St Giles’ Church at Noon on Monday 9th July 2018.

Churches Together in Central Oxford Taizé Unity Service 8 pm on Sunday 15th July at Friends’ Meeting House, St Giles. All are welcome.

Chapel Service: Greg Valerio, who has received an OBE for his work with Fair Trade jewellery, is coming to speak at the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies at 9:30 am on Wednesday 4th July.  The Centre is in St Philip and St James Church, at the junction of Woodstock/Leckford Road.  All are welcome.
