The Gatehouse: The box is now in church, and as usual, we are collecting scarves, gloves, pants, socks and small bars of chocolate for guests of The Gatehouse (90% of whom are male).  Please bring your contributions (unwrapped).  The present-wrapping event is on 19thDecember from 12 noon to 3:00 pm and all are welcome to come along to this.                                                                                                                     Margaret Williamson

Congregational Photo: Tom Albinson will be leaving at the end of the year and he would like to have a photo of the congregation as a memento of his time here.  We are trying to arrange for this to be taken after the 10:30 am service on Sun 16th Dec.  It would be great if as many people as possible could be here, so that we can get a picture of most of the people associated with St Giles’.

St Giles’ Carol Service by Candlelight – Sunday 23rd December at 6:30 pm.

Contactless Offerings: St Giles’ is part of a national trial for collecting
donations via contactless cards. If you wish to give your weekly donation via card, please use the system which is on the coffee bar. If you have any

St Giles’ Choir CD: This Sunday sees the launch of the new Choir CD (price
£10), which will be on sale in church after the 10:30 am service.

From Revd Georgie Simpson: On Michaelmas Sunday, 30th Sept, I am officially retiring from my position as Associate Priest in the Benefice. My final service will be the 10.30 am Parish Eucharist at St Margaret’s. Ben and I would like to invite you all to drinks and nibbles after that service and do hope you will be able to join us.

Exodus Exhibition at St Giles’: This runs until 30th Sept and aims to raise funds for supporting three Oxford-based organisations, Sanctuary Hosting, Asylum Welcome and Refugee Resource, through sales and donations – hence, one of our green ‘buckets’ at the back of the church.Half Marathon on Sunday 7th Oct: There will be road closures to allow this to take place.(See https://uk.virginsport.com/event/oxford-2018/faqs)

Revd Michael Screech: Michael died on 1st June.  He was being cared for in the nursing home in which he had been living for the last few months.  Please remember Michael in your prayers. The Memorial service for Michael is at All Souls College Chapel, Thursday 28th June, at 11am.

St Giles’ Parish News: articles for the magazine are always welcome.  The deadline for the July edition is 20th June.

St Giles’ Choir will sing in Coventry Cathedral on 23rd June 2018 at 4:00 pm.

Services on Sunday 24th June – The Birth of St John the Baptist: 8:00 am – Holy Communion (BCP); 10:30 am – Holy Communion; 6:30 pm – Evensong.

The Interfaith Friendship Walk will take place on Thurs 28th June, departing from The Synagogue, Richmond Rd, at 6:15 pm (calling at St Giles’ at 6:40pm).

Music at St Giles’ in aid of Project 900: Violin and Piano Recital – Jacqui Miles (violin); Bethe Levvy (piano) – Saturday 30th June, 7:30 pm.  Jacqui Miles is First Violin at English National Opera and the founder and director of the Oxford Violin School.  Tickets: £12/£10/£8/£5

Project 900: There will be a Congregational Meeting after the 10:30 am service on 1st July to present the next stage of Project 900.  Please join us in the church for this important event.

A shared Parish Lunch in the Vicarage garden (in church if wet) will follow the Project 900 presentation on 1st July.  Suggested contributions include cold meat or fish, quiche, vegetarian dishes or substantial salads; alternatively, a pudding or some cheese would be welcome.  Soft drinks will be provided, but adults may like to bring something stronger!

Cricket Match: On 8th July, after the 10:30 am service, St Giles’ and St Margaret’s will be having a cricket match at St Edward’s School.  If you would like to play, please let Tom Albinson know.

Re-roofing at St Giles’: While the work is taking place, it is not possible to access the North door from the Woodstock Road approach.

Flowers: The flowers in church this week are given in memory of Y S Chau from C K and M Chu and family.

Revd Michael Screech: Michael died on 1st June at 11:00 am.  He was being cared for in a nursing home in which he had been living for the last few months.  Please remember Michael in your prayers.  It is likely that the funeral and thanksgiving services will take place late in June.

Decorating the church: Volunteers are needed to help decorate the church ready for our Christmas services.  4:00 pm on Wednesday 13th December.

The Gatehouse would like donations of new pants (90% of their users are male) socks, hats, gloves, scarves and chocolate bars.  They hope to be able to give everyone at least one present.  Donations can be left in church until 17th Dec, or delivered to the Parish Rooms from 4-7 pm, Monday-Friday and 3-6 pm on Sunday.  Their Christmas present wrapping event will be held on Wed 20th Dec, 11 am-3 pm at the Parish Rooms.  All welcome – just turn up to help!

Thursday Lunchtime Talks in St Giles’ at 12:30pm.  The theme for this term is Building Community, beginning on Thursday 12th October with The Dynamics and Psychology of Building Community – Speaker: Anne Holmes.  During the series we will be looking at how communities are formed, maintained or destroyed in a variety of different circumstances.  See posters for full details of all the talks.
