St Giles – Notices for 13th January

A Message from the Treasurer: Since the appeal in last week’s pew sheet we have been given a most generous anonymous donation of £1,000 towards the cost of keeping the churchyard clean and tidy throughout the coming year.  Rod Nixon (

Heather Poole: Heather died at midday on 1st January 2019.  The funeral has been arranged for 12 noon at St Giles’ on Friday 18thJanuary.  Please remember Alan, Heather and the family in your prayers.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity – 18th-25th January 2019.

Sunday 20th January (Epiphany 3): 8:00 am – Holy Communion (BCP) (2nd Sunday after The Epiphany); 10:30 am – Holy Communion (Christian Unity service, Preacher Richard Ounsworth OP); 6:30 pm – Evensong.

Congregational Meeting: The Project 900 steering group want to bring you up to date with the developments of the plans for Project 900.  There will be a meeting after the 10:30 am Holy Communion service on Sunday 20th January.  We will let you know about developments with the fund-raising, plans for the west end building works and plans for the new organ.

Sheila Phillips: Sheila died on 4th January.  Her funeral will be at St Giles’ on Saturday 26th January at 10:30 am.  Please remember Sheila and her family in your prayers.

St Giles’ Choir will be singing in Coventry Cathedral on 29th June; and Peterborough Cathedral on 6th July.  (

A Message from the Treasurer: It will cost £1,017.90 to pay Alison, the Church Watcher, to keep the grounds around the Church and Parish Rooms tidy throughout the coming year.  Would anyone like to contribute towards this increase in our running expenses during 2019?  Further information from Rod Nixon (

The Epiphany Blessing of our homes: At the end of the 10:30 am Holy Communion service, there will be the Blessing of the Chalk. This is to enable members of the congregation to take part in the Epiphany Blessing of their own home.  Homes which were included last year have the 20 + C + M + B + 18 inscribed on them, a mark which was repeated on both St Giles’ and St Margaret’s churches when Bishop Steven conducted his pilgrimage around the deaneries of Oxford and Cowley.  This year homes taking part will have 20 + C + M + B + 19, bringing them up to date with the current year.

Sunday 6th January: 6:00 pm – Epiphany Carol Service at St Margaret’s.
