Annual Services

All Souls

Beginning of November

On the Sunday closest to November 2nd, there is a special service in St Giles’ at which we remember our departed loved ones and friends. A choir is formed to sing Faure’s Requiem and this provides most of the music for this service of Holy Communion. Those attending the service are invited to light a candle for the loved one they are remembering.

Before the service you are invited to write down the name of the person you want to be remembered in the prayers.

Homelessness

End of January

On the third or fourth Sunday of January we have a special service to celebrate the work that is being done in Oxford for the Homeless people of this city. St Giles’ hosts the work of the Gatehouse in St Giles’ Parish Rooms and this service presents an opportunity for the church to thank all those who work with homeless people.

Ash Wednesday

February / March

At the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday we have a Holy Communion service in the Lady Chapel. At this service, the imposition of an ash cross on the forehead will be offered to participants. This is to remind us of our human frailty and reminds us of our need for the guidance and strength of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
