St Giles Fair,

5th and 6th September:

As usual, we are looking for volunteers for various roles so that we can have St Giles’ open on both days and offer a safe and welcoming environment for visitors. Could you provide or serve refreshments, or steward the church? Sign-up sheets are now available, or speak to the Churchwardens if you would like to know more.

St Giles’ House Group will meet in church on 3rd and 17th August at 6 pm – after Evening Prayer. Everyone welcome.

The Transfiguration of Our Lord (Saturday 6th August): Eucharist at 6:00 pm at St Giles’.

Next Sunday – 7th August, Eleventh Sunday after Trinity: 8:00 am – BCP Holy Communion; 10:30 am – Holy Communion; 6:30 pm – Evensong.

The Assumption of the BVM (Monday 15th August): Eucharist with hymns at St Margaret’s at 8:00 pm.

Vacancy forChurch Steward for St Giles’ (paid): The hours will be12 noon to 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday, in St Giles’ Church plus one extra hour for duties outside the church, i.e. 11 hours a week in total. Duties:To unlock the church and be present while it is open (weekdays, 12 noon-2 pm); To welcome visitors and introduce them to the church building; To support the general life of the church.   • Chapel Service in Ss Philip & James (OCMS): 9:30 am, Wednesday 27th July. Speaker: Wonsuk Ma, outgoing Director. All welcome.
  • Lecture Series at the Cathedral – Christ Church Radicals: Bishop George Bell, “Internationalist”. Speaker: Very Revd Prof Martyn Percy, Dean of Christ Church. 4:30 pm, Wednesday 27th July in the Frideswide Room.
  • Mobile Belfry – Thursday 28th July: A portable “mini-ring” will be put up from mid-morning to mid-afternoon on the paved area between the church and the Parish Rooms and there will be a number of experienced ringers present to explain how the bells work and to instruct anyone who would like to ring them. Full details are on the posters around the church.
  • Next Sunday – 31st July, Tenth Sunday after Trinity: 8:00 am – BCP Holy Communion; 10:30 am – Holy Communion; 6:30 pm – Evensong. The bell-ringers will be having a peal attempt between 1:00 and 4:00 pm.

  • Family Fun Concert at St Giles’: Not Waving but Drowning (The Titanic House Band). This is the last concert in the Summer series
    and is especially geared to young people. 7:30 pm, Sat 16th July. £10/£8 concessions/Children free. The concert only lasts about 90 minutes, with an interval for soft drinks, wine and plenty of nibbles. Do come along and support this – all proceeds go to the Choir Academy.

IF the weather is dry, the lunch will be in the Vicarage garden at 12:30 pm.  If it is still wet, then it will be in church fairly soon after the 10:30 am service.  Please do come and bring some food to share.  It would be lovely if we can make this another splendid event in our parish life, when we can get to know each other a bit more.  Everyone welcome!
