Paint and Sculpture
20th to 28th August 2005
Matthew Shaw is a sculptor. He has worked in many
different materials and environments. The work that has been created in response
to these many environments has varied in size and medium from small intricate
stone carvings to large scale interactive installations. His work has taken him
abroad to Zimbabwe, South Africa, India and Cyprus.
Grahame Parry is a painter. He lives and works
in Cyprus and has exhibited extensively in Cyprus and the UK.
The Work
The two artists propose to produce 20-30 pieces of work in
direct response to the space and history of St Giles’ church. At this stage it
is envisaged that the work will be small scale, and will occupy the more
secluded and hidden spaces in the church. This, it is hoped, will give the
exhibition an investigative and exploratory feel, where the work will not
necessary be on full and obvious display. This in turn will encourage the viewer
to look at the work and its context within the church in a deeper way. It will
also mean that the work is displayed sympathetically to the activities and
architecture of the church.
