St Giles Churchyard and Garden
St Giles has fine grounds, situated at the heart of the City.

The churchyard contains several fine tombs, including a Jacobean example (centre right)
which is the tomb of one of the builders of Blenheim Palace. Click on the picture above to

The area is being lightened and cleared of overgrown shrubs and bushes so as
to improve the vistas of the surrounding townscape. The next step is to improve
the paths and provide a memorial path and seating area. The Yew avenue is being
restored and replanted where trees have been removed. The East end of the Church
will also be landscaped as a parterre, and memorial area.
| Eleanor Wood's Memorial Garden was designed by the Superintendent
of the
University Parks. Eleanor Wood was for many years a member of the congregation, and
Churchwarden, With her husband, Leslie, she was at the centre of St Giles' life until she
died. The garden is her lasting memorial. It features herbs and spreading plants which
require relatively low maintenance. It provides a lovely approach to the South door of the
Church.
