Canon Barry Wright is Senior Chaplain with the Metropolitan Police. He joined the Metropolitan Police as a Cadet at the age of 17, did National Service in the Royal Air Force, then served for thirty years in the Metropolitan Police Service, as a beat constable in Brixton, in the Public Order Branch at New Scotland Yard, Sergeant in South London, Inspector in the East End, then Royalty and Diplomatic Service Group and as a Chief Inspector Operations and Community Liaison Officer in South London. He was instrumental in setting up the first Victim Support Group in London. Whilst serving as a Police Officer, he read theology, was ordained and served as a priest in secular employment for 20 years. On retirement from the Police he was appointed as the first full-time Chaplain to the West Midlands Police. In 1993, he was appointee as senior chaplain to the Metropolitan Police and is now also Vicar of St Michael and All Angels, Mill Hill, in North London. |
